I’m not sure everyone on the old forum is aware that we’ve moved over here. So maybe it’s a slow start for now and when this becomes the actual site under the original web address, we will see a larger increase? Maybe it’s possible to send private messages to all on the old forum since some might have missed the thread about it?
No, I’m happy with how it’s going. I just wanted to correct the impression that the campaign was finished and successful and we’re now rolling in money. ![]()
I’m considering sending emails to a subset of the membership, once I get a new data export.
On the other hand, they won’t get lost. After around Feb 27th, if they go to thephilosophyforum.com it’ll take them here.
Yeah I considered doing the one-off, but then thought of the long term and decided the monthly was actually better for stability.
I agree.
I think the goal is to get as many members as possible to make this happen—each of us holding our share or percentage, like a comunidad de bienes as we say here.
I appreciate your need to fundraise, but I feel sad I have to pay to upload a profile picture. Maybe someday in the future I will subscribe, but I only just joined today.
Thank you for what you do! This is a great platform for “searching for the truth.” Although I liked the previous version of the site, too.
Despite my sympathy, I cannot become a sponsor, as it could be construed as “supporting the dissemination of objectionable content” under local law. As a lawyer, I can neither confirm nor deny this, as I never know where the powers that be will turn tomorrow.
Wow.
Yeah, don’t let the authorities of your country read the conversations we have in the shoutbox—they would deny our visas!
Thanks @Astorre, I appreciate the words of support ![]()
Normally, uploading your own profile image is a privilege reserved for subscribers, but I’ve exempted you from that restriction.
Supporting the operation of the forum isn’t supporting what individuals say on the forum, no?
With the basic rules of conduct for the forum, what would be further objectionable content you risk? It sounds like some scary authoritarian conditions where you live. I hope it changes for you.
Thank you for your support. However, it was philosophy that taught me to distinguish between hopes for good and reality, for which I am immensely grateful. On the other hand, not everything is so bad: For something to be good, something else must be bad, otherwise we won’t know what good is. =)
Oppression persists.
I would have expected my username to transfer, but I had to register it again. I was a subscriber. Will my subscription transfer?
You don’t have to resubscribe here if you don’t want to. The old subscription should keep going even though the old site has been closed.
See this announcement:
I assume I need to cancel the old subscription and start a new one, because my old one is not associated with this new version of me that I had to create. Which I think I read is needed for a profile picture, and whatever else. So you can cancel the old one for me, and I’ll start a new one?
You don’t have to cancel the old subscription, because it’s independent of your former user account (it’s just Your card ↔ My PayPal account).
That said, I’d much prefer if we had all subscriptions in the new Stripe account instead of divided between Stripe and PayPal, so I think cancelling and then resubscring is the best way.
Let me know if you’re happy for me to cancel your PayPal subscription.
Since I want to be able to have a profile picture, I just resubscribed. Please cancel the old one.
That’s cancelled now.
Thanks for the support ![]()
