How do we check what trust level we are on and where can we see the requirements to move up?
I don’t know what trust level you’re at but to move up, I’m sure it requires honesty.
Im very honest tho. My nose is short and stubby unlike a certain lying individual.
It’s a good question @leo_starboy. Since launching the site, I haven’t explained this comprehensively in a single place.
Instead of seeing “Trust Level 1” etc., what you normally see are the display names:
- TL0: New user
- TL1: Basic user, or “Registered”
- TL2: Member
- TL3: Regular
- TL4: Leader
Higher trust levels are assigned automatically, based on certain thresholds that I can change.
I can also assign them manually, to individuals or to groups.
Trust levels determine various permissions relating to access and actions, like the number of posts per day, access to certain categories, access to private chat messages, and so on.
The biggest privilege of TL2 is the ability to send private messages (PMs) and private direct messages in chat (DMs). Restricting this functionality helps to protect members from malicious new users, spammers, etc., and also helps us comply with UK online safety laws.
Getting to TL2 normally requires you to spend a certain amount of time on the forum, reading and replying to topics and posts. At your rate of engagement, I imagine you’ll get there in a couple of weeks.
However, many of the active users have been members of TPF for many years, so I promoted them to TL2 as soon as they signed up here on the new site (launched a couple of weeks ago) by adding them to the legacy-members group, which carries an automatic TL2 assignment. This was part of the migration from the old site, which was closed on February 26.
I mostly haven’t changed the Discourse defaults for trust level thresholds, but they’re easily configurable.
An interesting and probably useful complexity is that trust levels are somewhat independent of the user/moderator/admin hierarchy. I’m a “Leader”, with trust level 4, and I’m also an admin—but I can promote a non-staff member to TL4, thus making them a Leader too, which would make them something like a “Power User”.
So many years of philosophy, I can’t leave it on the table; is there any difference with TL3 Jamal, or do they just yell my name when I enter the bar?
Never mind Jamal. “Member: Granted invitations, group messaging, more likes” Is this the I’m-helping-pay-for-this-so-bow level?
