Are others finding the “Proofread text” option unusably slow? As in, taking seconds to read each word?

I’ve only just noticed a problem with its incorrect reproduction of my writing.
It happened when I started a number list of 3. Not sure what happened but my following text was then split and sentences numbered 1 to 6.
I logged out and in to find the draft still had this format. I don’t know how to change it. Advice welcome!
For me, it’s a pane that appears on the right side of my text box. It writes as you type and shows you how the text will look before submission.
I’ve deleted the draft and now, it seems that I no longer have the review pane when writing this. Ah, I had pressed the button ‘A’ (top left of editing menu)— so, if I press it again…Yes! I have the preview.

Yes, but I think that’s a good thing.
It is better if the proofread text takes its time to do things right. 
There is an AI menu in the composer, which gives you the option to proofread and correct what you’ve written:
But as @Banno observes, it’s slow. I use external tools, personally. There are posts about its performance on meta.discourse.org, where people recommend proofreading only short pieces of text.

Ah, thanks for the image with pointer. I didn’t see the diamond with the hovering ‘Ask AI’ until I used the right arrow.
I’ll try it out now. It works! I deliberately typed ‘no’ instead of ‘now’ — lo and behold, a miracle of rectitude or perfection or something.
There’s no stopping me now…

Long ago, I used to subscribe to a free version of Grammarly… but…
I always have the Claude desktop app open on my second monitor, so I just use that.
But often I just post without proofreading.
I do that too. You don’t need to, being internally and externally perfect.
I probably should. My writing leaves a lot to be desired. Me and commas don’t get along. I should be more Italian about it and just miss them out altogether.
I rationalize my laziness by saying it doesn’t matter. I embrace my imperfections
Now, that’s annoying! AI just corrected my ‘rationalise’ to ‘rationalize’. Are we all Americans now?

There’s also Deepseek and ChatGPT. The world is your AI oyster.

Yeah, there are word processors and text editors with spelling and grammar checkers.
I don’t use Mac, but I guess I could take a look at my Microsoft Word.
I prefer to write spontaneously when responding, but a proofreader is useful if I need to write ‘proper’ for TPF essays, for example.

I updated one of my machines and Gemini has been nattering at me. I dismissed it.
I think most browsers have either built-in spell-checkers, or extensions that do the same (and more). Like a Grammarly extenstion for Chrome, for example. That way you could get proofreading as you go without using the AI tool.

I note that Microsoft Edge has Copilot. It pops up without being asked when I use Search.
I didn’t think to use it for proofreading. I’m stupidly stubborn that way. I can do it!!
