The leaves rustled as the wind was strong that day and the trees swayed, beautifully mundane as nature tends to be. In the deep dark Forest there lived a fox that lived in an old oak tree
Sometimes there were hunters that got lost in these woods but they always found their way out eventually not always in one piece. One day someone went off into the woods. He was trying to escape the forlorn struggle of human perseverance but he didn’t want a solution; he just wanted to be in those woods and peaceful, maybe even find a couple pinecones or witness an eclipse perhaps.
But as he was resentful and filled with hate he needed to stuff All that somewhere, so he followed the directions carved into the trees to the foxes oak tree and entered to the fox making some oatmeal “welcome, want some oatmeal or honey” said the fox “no thanks but I’ll sit with you and we can discuss many things” the human said with excitement as he never really felt at home with humans especially because they build off of their own failed ideas far too often for it to amount to anything “so as a fox do you think any action is objectively wrong or right morally speaking”
“I suppose I do think there are actions that are morally wrong such as ending one’s life” the fox says calmly eating his oatmeal happily
“i would argue that killing someone is not objectively bad, because what if you could decide to kill someone or not, but if you do kill them you save three other people then it would be less death and therefore less negative actions”
“going by Utilitarianism, yes but I prefer deontology, an ethical theory that judges the morality of actions based on rules, duties, and intentions, rather than consequences. And it would be immoral of me to punch someone regardless of if it kills (more) people.”
[Not dialogue. Just for a lil more context Utilitarianism is an ethical theory asserting that the morally right action is the one that maximizes overall happiness, well-being, or “utility” for the greatest number of people such as less death would be the choice for Utilitarianism and deontology is basically the opposite]
“If you’re a fox and live in nature do you deem other animals that kill and hunt to survive immoral?” the human asks curiously as they look through the window and see a hawk brutally penetrate a bunny with its talons. The bunny’s blood gushes out of it blissfully, its red looking and shiny and metallic. The bunny dies a slow useless death seemingly used to it but that can’t be true.
“I don’t deem other animals immoral”
“But they do the things by your logic would be unethical”
“I live in a cold slaughterhouse of a forest, this is the only point of this forest where morality is even a concept so I suppose it doesn’t matter what I deem.” the wind howls endlessly. the owl outside hooting in a way that would suggest he doesn’t like capitalism or quaker oats.
“yes nothing necessarily is wrong but not right either” the human says as the fox stares out the window at the bloody mess of the bunny corpse
“I guess. I do many things that are wrong in my eyes”
“If you did try to fix the endless violence outside
Would you be able to eventually”
“No, there isn’t any way to make them stop killing each other and ignoring it is the only way i can have peace of mind”
“Ignorance is bliss” the human says
“bliss is a lobotomy” The fox says
