I wish the Lounge is not restricted to logged-in members only. What is the benefit of only seeing it if one is logged?
Whatās the detriment? You seem like you have your wits about you. Surely you can just tap the āLog inā button, enter your credentials and access the content in a few seconds flat.
Not to be cynical but, unless you really need to know what music or television shows people are listening to or watching, thereās not a great much going on there, to be frank.
And likewise, Sir, if itās no big deal, why conceal it from members who arenāt logged in?
I am asking a simple question.
Also, I disagree that thereās not much going on in the Lounge. There are gems written there.

Actually there are readers for this kind of posts! And maybe they donāt want to be exposed.
There are two reasons. First, we donāt want search engine crawlers to index those threads. Second, we donāt want guests to see non-philosophical stuff at the top when they arrive (existing members can opt to have those topics hidden from the main page, but new visitors will see everything unless itās hidden from all guests already).
A public Lounge would dilute the āphilosophy hereā signal.
BTW I moved this, because it has nothing to do with filtered thread views.

Apart from the reasons which are already given, I think another important reason for making the lounge only visible for logged-in members is privacy.
A not logged-in person reading our casual conversations would be like a freak who is listening behind the door.
Sitān with Socrates (remember Tiff?) would chastise me for eating too many eggs, so I stopped sharing.

It also helps with building an online community, which TPF aims to be from what I understand. You are incentivised to create an account if you want to āparticipateā or have access to a lounge-like area.
Yes, true. But making the lounge visible doesnāt take away from that community. I think the members who come here and register are already incentivized by the fact that this is a serious philosophy forum.
@Banno Yes, I never see you post anything substantial in the lounge. I know Hanover just couldnāt get enough time to post an image of his plate in the shoutbox. Speaking of which, thatās also not visible to non-logged members. But thatās fine.
Can you make a nonindex tag so google ignores it? From what I understand you can implement it on Discourse. Google should not be able to index those titles. Youāre blocking it from search results. That way, too, the main goal of this site, which is philosophy, is not compromised.
Iām saying, make the the thread titles in the lounge visible, not the contents, so others can see them, but not able to click the contents unless theyāre logged in. What do you think?

Iām sorry that you thought so. It was my intent to limit and separate that discussion to guitar only, and thatās pretty much what happened. I also had live music in mind, rather than recorded stuff. That wasnāt so successful.
