I am truly unsure that if in some of my memories I am dreaming.
I consider some these moments as possible ‘transfer-states’, going deeper into the world dimensions.
Does anyone else experience something similar?
It brings to light the possibility of everyone experiencing a separate biosphere, where every person is a signal, sending a P-zombie into every other biosphere.
In my experience of the biosphere, every other life-form, is fake, but dependant on the signals of those people, in their own biospheres- otherwise how do I go deeper through dimensions?
I have memories that are strange- I’ve had dreams that seem to have lasted for years.
The state I began in, is not the current state I’m in- I am almost sure I’ve changed the original state. At some point in my history, a dream-layer has toppled reality of world.
This certainly dances near the border of psychosis, or at least it is written like it. I don’t think philosophizing about such a thing is the best idea.
OK, not quite that for me. What I experience is a return to a dream-country or dream-geography that has existed throughout decades of dreaming, and which I recognize each time I see it, including noticing changes.
Yes I have this, and as someone who’s recorded my dreams for many years, I have some insights. For one thing, we can group the different ways of miscategorizing a dream memory:
Short term (before initially realising it was a dream) e.g. deciding I will spend today going to the gothic street on the edge of town before realizing that said street doesn’t exist
Long term (after realizing it was a dream) e.g. Thinking for a moment that there was a day where my bathroom got flooded last year, before recalling that that was a dream.
Remembering a dream within a dream. Really common for me – “I’ve been here before…”
In terms of telling truth from fiction, of course there’s no foolproof method. Our contact with the world is entirely through subjective experience.
However, in most cases dreams will be missing details – how did you get there, where, when, what happened afterwards etc. Memories of real events often lack some of these things, but dreams often lack them all.
Well is it harmful? I mean, if you were, say, angry at someone because of something they never said, it was actually in a dream…then there’s a problem.
But, for example in my case: I’ve lived in many towns, and sometimes when I reminiscence about a place, the real memories are jumbled a bit with memories of the dream version. I can normally tell real from dream if I need to (as per my previous post), but mostly it doesn’t matter to have these memories globbed together.
