The OP is based on the view that God is omniscient and omnipotent, so he had the power and foreknowledge to avoid the occurrence of the original sin. That makes him complicit, and as the more powerful entity on the scene, responsible.

I don’t know why you’re talking about Cain and Able. That doesn’t really have anything to do with it.

Well, God can be held responsible for the first sin even if He does not have foreknowledge because He created a sinful situation.

It has to do with the question of foreknowledge and if they were pre-ordained to disobey and eat of the tree of knowledge. So, I will ask again, did God know that they ate of the tree of knowledge or would eat from in? When God asks Adam and Eve “where are you” is there any indication that he already knew where they were? When he asked: "Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” is there any indication that he already knew?

I guess you’re arguing that God isn’t omniscient. I’m not interested in trying to settle a theological question. I’m not a theologian.

No, I am arguing that the story does not support the assumption that he is.

The notion that God is the Supreme Being is not based on the story of the Garden of Eden.

That is right. This topic is about the story of original sin in Genesis, not the notion of a Supreme Being.

Read the second sentence of the OP.

This one?

If so, then you and he are not talking about the story in Genesis, but one of your own making.

God is responsible for the first sin regardless of whether He has foreknowledge or not. I think we discussed this.

What you can do is contribute that you don’t believe the old Problem of Evil is significant because it doesn’t say God is a Supreme Being in Genesis.

The problem lives on for everyone else who has considered the issue over the last 1600 years.

We have discussed this, but your claim that God is responsible for what man does, is just that, and not more than that, no matter how many times you repeat it.

All I am talking about here is that God is responsible for the first sin. Agree or disagree?

</div>

Why would I contribute this?

That there is evil is certainly a problem. That there is a God who could eliminate the problem is only a problem for those who believe there is such a God and wish to maintain the belief that God is omnibenevolent in the face of evil.

The story of Job takes a middle ground. The problem is acknowledged, but the conclusion is that it is beyond our comprehension to understand why God does not do something about it.

If it is not clear by now that I do not agree then I don’t think there is more that I can say.

That’s the later Problem of Evil. The old Problem of Evil has to do with the creation of evil out of a single, unified Creator. The OP is a version of that.

And yet we must choose to either accept or reject the supposed “word of god”.

This makes the claim of a single, unified Creator problematic, to say the least.
