I know a little about the Jesus’ view of evil. For Jesus there’s the apocalypse that’s coming down the pike. Apocalyptic thought has the good-evil duality, a final confrontation between the 2, eventual triumph of good over evil, and the formation of the kingdom of God.
As you can see it didn’t work out so well for apocalyptisists. No cosmic judge descended from the clouds, no battle, no victory. Eventually they had to posit a heaven for good folk and a hell for bad folk and of course a soul that would go to these places in the afterlife.
The evil in me was foul. I loved my own faults, my oen perdition, not the things for which I sinned but the sin itself ~ St. Augustine
Zoroastrianism has Ahura Mazda (good deity) and Angra Mainyu (bad deity) and there’s speculation that this might have influenced Jewish sects like the Essenes, contemporenous with Jesus.
Jesus’ wandering in the wilderness is when Ha Satan tempts him, offering the kingdoms of the world if Jesus switches allegiance.
Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism have different conceptions of evil. Someone more knowledgeable may be able to shed some light on the matter.
P. S. I have a thread on failures of generic arguments against God. If anyone’s interested we’re here, currently discussing objective morality and God.
