Should the US government fund critical theory research?

"In both cases, frustration associated race relations was the engine of violence. I do think that if they had their druthers, the Walton family would be happy to fund investigations into systemic racism. If we looked around for some intellectuals who have ideas on how to do that, it’s going to be American critical theory.

I’m just saying: CRT is a little more than an idea. There are problems that CRT could help us address."

I don’t know what the Walton’s would happily fund, but I’m pretty sure they would rather fund discussions of “race relations” and CRT than “redistribution of wealth” – something that could/would/should help disadvantaged people of color more than another round of positive gestures and small comforts. The Waltons would predictably be unenthusiastic about surrendering say 90% of their wealth for such a purpose. (90% of their roughly half-trillion dollar pile would leave them with a few billion dollars to barely skimp by on.)

“Neomarxists” and CRT proponents don’t seem to be much interested in a compensatory redistribution of wealth to minority victims of systemic racism. In fairness, there aren’t many people who are enthusiastic about it. From the POV of old-style Marxists, the 90% of the population who are wage earning workers have been oppressed, are eligible for revolutionary benefits, and that includes 99.9% of disadvantaged minorities.

No state/society has ever been against the accumulation of wealth (as far as I know) and making a lot of money usually involves screwing large numbers of people (“Beneath every great fortune is a swindle” - Honoré de Balzac.) Some people get screwed more than others, which makes the USA pretty much like everybody else.
