I’ll keep participation here short.
From my understanding, Foot is ‘modern’ only in the sense that she isn’t using Aristotle’s system – a virtue catalogue where temperance sets the terms.
For me, her interest lies in how reasons arise — from need, vulnerabilities – the ways a life can flourish.
The real moral danger she is concerned about isn’t, of course, shitting or masturbation, but the deadly habit of powerful humans shitting on one another through dogmatic ideology and destruction.
