If you see a post that breaks the rules or causes concern, please **flag it** rather than replying publicly.

## How to flag a post

1. Click the **flag icon** beneath the post.
2. Choose the most appropriate reason.
3. Add a short explanation if needed.

Moderators will review the report and take action where necessary.

## When to flag

Please flag posts that consist of:

- harassment, abuse, or personal attacks
- illegal or clearly rule-breaking content
- spam, trolling, or disruptive behaviour
- privacy violations or doxxing
- excessive combativeness or needless hostility
- low effort or lack of engagement
- fully or mostly AI-generated content

If you’re unsure, it’s fine to flag—moderators will decide.

## What happens after you flag

- Moderators review all flags.
- Action may include editing or removing content, issuing warnings, or taking other moderation steps.
- Not every flagged post will necessarily be removed.

## Please don’t reply to problem posts

Replying often escalates the situation and makes moderation harder. Flagging quietly is usually the best way to help.

## Flagging private messages

You can also flag private messages (PMs) and chat messages. If you receive a message that is abusive, threatening, or otherwise inappropriate, report it in the same way as a post. Moderators can review flagged PMs and take action where necessary.

NOTE: Moderators cannot ordinarily read private messsages or direct chat messages. They only become visible to moderators when flagged. They are handled discreetly and will only be seen by moderators.

If something urgent or serious cannot be handled through flags, you can contact the moderators via private message or email: **[info@thephilosophyforum.com](mailto:info@thephilosophyforum.com)**
