It’s important to keep believing that self-improvement and self-development is valuable and important for us all.

I often read John Rawls, the great Liberal philosopher.

The relevant work is “The Idea of Public reason revisited”.

It attempts to advise atheists and theists and every other religion or world view on how to live together.

We can each have a personal view. What he called a comprehensive word view. It might be theist, atheist, deist etc. Its what we each believe in our own space.

However, when it comes to the constitution or rights we need to offer public reasons. Reasons everyone can accept regardless of their world view expressed in neutral language.

In a sense then we look at the Constitution as if in different mirrors. Thats how we get on

How does that fare with fundamentalism, which generally views any kind of secular inspired pluralism like this as anathema?

Its possible that some fundamentalists dont accept the constitution. It creates difficulties but I think that the theme of the OP was how reasonable people can come to a shared understanding
