“I don’t enjoy a good meal any less knowing it will be over in an hour or so. I don’t value my house any less knowing that one day it will be ruins.”
That’s exactly my point! You don’t need a higher meaning or judment or value to live the now. The now is by itself enough. That’s what I said in the post. It doesn’t matter if you live 10 more years or 1 more day. The now holds all the meaning one needs. It always will. (Admittedly that sounds a bit too certain)
And I never used to word suffering or problem, these as well would require an objective meaning. Without such objectivity there is no suffering unless one decides there is. The lack of meaning doesn’t universally cause pain, that only happens if we need meaning.
I don’t seek death because there is no point to it. There is no monster to escape.
I mean think of every movie you have seen, every goal you had. It is arbitrary, the hero can save many lives but they will all still die. You accomplish a goal and move on to the next one.
We are fully immersed in fictions of our own creating. The stories we live knowing (or not knowing) they’re stories without any objective meaning beyond ourselves.
When I look at that, yes I see the absurd everywhere.
“Well then it is none to you! For there’s nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so.”
-Hamlet
As for me I’d say that even though now is enough the fact that we still want to live another 10 years, we still want to “make a difference” is the absurd.
Again, I see that “absurd” can have a negative conotation but I don’t mean it that way. I see it only as our expectancies and our desires being ours fully without needing to be validated by the “universe”. That is seeing the absurd.
Stoics are cool for sure! Though for me they worship a bit too much at the feet of “virtue” and “reason”.
Not that there’s anything wrong with picking reason as your “causeless cause” or a sort of “per se” belief (true because of itself) but to say they are universal I can’t agree with.
